Three die after being hit by trains in Dhaka
Three people were killed after they were hit by separate trains in Moghbazar rail crossing and Cantonment Railway Station in the capital today.
One of the deceased was identified as Sumon Das, 48, of Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka while identities of the other victims could not yet be known, said police.
Harun-or-Rashid, sub-inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station, said Sumon and another victim were injured after a train hit their motorcycle while they were attempting to cross the rail tracks in Moghbazar around 7:15pm.
Even though the barrier was lowered at the rail crossing as the train was approaching, the duo tried to cross, said the police official.
They were taken to Insaf Al-Barakah Hospital in Dhaka where doctors declared one of the two victims dead. Police could not identify the victim.
Sumon was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as his physical condition deteriorated, said SI Harun, adding that Sumon later died at the DMCH.
In another accident, a sixty-year-old man died on the spot after being crushed by another train at Cantonment Railway Station in the capital in the evening.
Mohiuddin, sub-inspector of Airport Police Camp, said a Kamalapur Railway Station-bound train hit the man while he was crossing the tracks at the station around 7:30pm.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the DMCH morgue, added SI Mohiuddin.
