Rifat murder: Minni sent to Kashimpur jail amid tight security

Ayesha Siddique Minni, wife of Rifat Sharif who was sentenced to death in the case filed over his murder in Barguna, was sent to Kashimpur Women’s Central Jail from Barguna jail this morning amid tight security.

Superintendent of Barguna District Jail Md Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.

“Since there is no proper arrangement for keeping women prisoners in Barguna District Jail, Minni has been shifted to Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail as per decision of higher authorities,” he said.

Minni was earlier kept in the women’s solitary cell of Barguna Jail since the verdict in the case was delivered by the Barguna District and Sessions Judge’s Court on September 30

Five other male convicts sentenced to death in the case are still in Barguna Jail, he added.

Of the 10 adult accused in the case, six including Rifat’s wife Minni were handed death sentence, while four others were acquitted.
