No possibility of unpleasant incident during Durga Puja: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam today said there is no possibility of any untoward incident surrounding ‘Durga Puja’ festivals.

“We have talked to the Hindu leaders . . . They all expressed their satisfaction with the security measures centring the Puja festivals,” he told media after visiting several city puja mandaps, including the Dhakeshwari Temple.

The DMP chief called for maintaining social distancing in the puja mandaps for the safety of senior citizens in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Replying to a query of journalists, he said, “A quarter is spreading rumours and falsehoods through social media, but the mass people have no link with it all.”

Senior police officials accompanied the DMP commissioner during the visit.
