Dhaka to have area-wise 8hr power cut daily throughout this month

Different areas in Dhaka will experience eight-hour power outage in turn over this month, starting from today till November 30.

The outage comes as Dhaka Electric Supply Company (Desco) will carry out maintenance works at its 32 sub-stations for 15 days, starting from today.

The company had had made the announcement earlier in a notice published in daily newspapers on November 2, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

“During this time [of maintenance work], some areas in the capital will experience eight-hour power outage in turns,” Monjurul Haque, chief engineer (network and operations) at Desco, told Prothom Alo.

The official apologised to Desco’s subscribers for the inconvenience.

According to the Desco notice, the areas which will undergo power cuts include Dhaka North areas of Mirpur, Banani, Gulshan, Bashundhara, Uttara, and Tongi.

The power cuts will take place from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Areas and dates of power outage:

Nov 5: Mirpur stadium and Krira Palli Complex and adjacent areas.

Nov 8: Some areas in Gulshan; Kakoli bus-stand to Banani Bazar (south end); Banani Post Office area and several roads.

Nov 9: Dakkhinkhan Bazar, Uttarkhan Madhyapara, Uttarkhan Uttarpara, Shyamalbagh, Taltola Uttarkhan, Gudaraghat, Shahi Masjid Road, and adjacent areas.

Nov 11: Uttara Sector 11 and 12, Uttara Sonargaon highway, areas under Tongi Police Station, Tongi Railway Station and adjacent areas.

Nov 12: Mirpur Freedom Fighters’ Co-operative Market; Shah Ali School and College; Mirpur New Market; Priyoprangan Housing; Beribadh; Dhaka Eye Hospital; Janata Housing Area; Mohakhal iicddr,b hospital, ShetuBhaban to Kakoli Bus-stand (east side of Airport Road); Baridhara Block-K; some parts of UN Road; Nardda to Kuril Biswa Road through Pragati Sarani.

Nov 15: Some avenues in Mirpur DOHS; Gulshan-1 road 23, 24, 27, 21, 30, 38 and some other roads; West Agargaon; District Election Office; LGED Zonal Officer; North Pirerbag; Shewrapara Ananda Bazar and adjacent areas.

Nov 16: Tongi BISIC areas

Nov 18: Kaola Mollabari, Ashiyan City Road, Ashkona Haji Camp and adjacent areas.

Nov 19: Bashundhara Residential Area including AIUB, NSU campuses, Grameenphone, Jamuna and Jugantar offices; Mirpur Swadhin Super Market; Shah Ali Bag; Muktijoddha Complex; Dhaka Zoo and Botanical Garden and adjacent areas; Mirpur-1 Ansar Camp; Delta Hospital; and Tolarbag residential area.
