The use of data will take a central role in the Labor government’s industrial strategy, according to shadow business secretary Jonathan Reynolds
A council will also be set up on a statutory basis to oversee the strategy and ensure that it is not abandoned at a later date.
The opposition party has said that if it wins the next general election, it will make “using data for the public good” a core mission of its industrial strategy.
Reynolds declared Industrial techniques of labor At the Labor Party conference in Liverpool. “It’s a real industry strategy – with ambition and the means to achieve it,” he said.
A key part of this, according to Reynolds, is using data. “We will use data for the public good, ensuring that it is not just in the hands of corporate gatekeepers, but is used to benefit us all,” he said.
In a policy statement, Reynolds said: “We also know that economic power requires sharing. States and markets. Businesses and workers. Bringing together everyday economics and technological frontiers to transform challenges into opportunities.”

He added: “We will stand up for the democratic, privacy and security rights of UK citizens.”
Labor plans to ensure its industrial strategy doesn’t get cut later – the fate of recent Conservative industrial strategies – by creating an industrial strategy council and putting it on a statutory basis, according to Reynolds, who added: “It will help end the farce of long-term planning that is in the political cycle. doesn’t last.”
