Bus burnt in collision with covered van in Cumilla

A Chattogram bound air-conditioned Green Line bus has burnt to ashes in a collision with a covered van at Jhagurjhuli area of Cumilla Sadar on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway early today.

Safayet Hossain, in-charge of Mainamati Highway police outpost said that the bus heading towards Chattogram from Dhaka was hit at around 2:20am by a covered van from the rear, causing an engine explosion.

“Passengers were immediately stepped down from the bus. No casualty was reported.”

On information, fire service officials rushed to spot and doused the fire, he added.

Ali Azam, senior station officer of Cumilla Fire Service and Civil Defense said two units of fire fighters worked to control the fire.

“The fire also spread to the covered van,” he said, adding that the fire officials saved the goods of the covered van.

Vehicular movement was suspended for two hours after the incident.
