Arms case: Charges framed against suspended SI Jalil

A tribunal in Dhaka today framed charges against Md Abdul Jalil Matabbar, a suspended sub-inspector, in an arms case.

Jalil, now in jail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Md Robiul Alam of the Special Tribunal-3 of Dhaka read out the charges to him.

Before that, the tribunal dismissed a petition submitted by his lawyer for discharging him from the case.

The tribunal then fixed December 8 for starting trial of the case.

According to the prosecution, it was alleged that on February 19 this year the accused sent some belongings from Dhaka through a courier service to Gopalganj District. Following information, local police opened the parcel and found a pistol with 27 bullets and 5,200 pieces of Yaba tablets.

Later, two cases were filed with the Darussalam Police Station under the arms and narcotics control acts.

After investigation, SI Nazrul Islam and also the investigation officer of the cases, pressed charges against Jalil on March 22 and July 9 respectively.

Earlier, Jalil had served at the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Narayanganj and later he was transferred to Gopalganj.
