Nine people, including seven of a family, suffered burns in a gas cylinder explosion in Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj yesterday.
The victims are Sepainessa (58), wife of Abdus Salam; their sons — Kamal Hossain (35) and Anwar Hossain (17), daughter Taslima Akter (25), grandchildren three-month-old Umme Habiba and three-year-old Umme Hanny and their relatives Parvin Akter (15), and Juyena (20), police said.
Condition of four is critical, according to police.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Mithamoin Police Station Md Zakir Rabbani said the gas cylinder exploded when Sepainessa tried to turn on the gas burner around 1:30pm yesterday.
Eight of the victims were rushed to Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj’s Bajitpur from where they were referred to Dhaka, said the OC. Another victim, Anwar, was released after first aid.
Police, who visited the spot, suspect that the incident might have happened because of a leak in the supply pipe of the cylinder.
