5 missing after speedboat capsizes in Patuakhali’s Agunmukha river



At least five passengers went missing after a speedboat capsized in Agunmukha river in Patuakhali’s Rangabali upazila.

The speedboat carrying 18 passengers left Koralia launch ghat for Galachipa’s Panpatti launch ghat around 5:00pm. The speedboat capsized after half an hour on the river, Rangabali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mashfaqur Rahman said quoting passengers.

Thirteen passengers managed to swim ashore while five others went missing, he said.

The missing passengers are police personnel Mahibbulla (35), NGO workers Md Kabir (30), Mostafa (35), Hasan (25) and Imran (25), said Ali Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Rangabali Police Station.

Locals were searching for the missing with trawlers and Coast Guard has already been informed to assist in the rescue operation, the UNO further said.
