‘383 people killed, 694 injured in 314 road accidents in October’

At least 383 people were killed and 694 people were injured in 314 road accidents across the country in October this year, Road Safety Foundation, a non-government organisation said today.

Of the 383, 68 were women and 41 were children, said a press release signed by the Executive Director of Road Safety Foundation Saidur Rahman.

A total of 132 people died in 119 motorcycle accidents which accounted for 34.46 percent of the total deaths, the press release said.

Some 97 pedestrians were run over while 42 drivers and assistants of vehicles were killed during this time.

At least 11 people were killed and six injured in five waterway accidents while 22 fishermen remain missing after a fishing trawler capsized at sea in the last month. 

Seventeen people died in 13 train accidents in the same month, added the report.

Road Safety Foundation collected the data based on reports in seven national dailies, five online news portals and electronic media.
